Richard Kaegi was destined for a career in pharmacy, the son of an OSU College of Pharmacy Class of 1921 graduate. His first job was working in his father’s pharmacy in Portland at the age of 5. After his father died in 1952, his mother ran the business operations. Kaegi was drafted after he graduated and stationed in Okinawa, Japan as a pharmacist.
In 1973, Kaegi and his brother moved the family business down to Wilsonville, opening the first pharmacy in the small town, where people riding horses were common in the drive-up window. After 65 years in business, the Kaegi Pharmacy sold to Payless in 1989, but left a lasting legacy.
Both Richard and his brother worked to preserve the history of pharmacy, becoming curators of pharmacy antiquities and memorabilia. The old-time pharmacy exhibit is on display at the Clackamas County Historical Society Museum of the Oregon Territory.
Richard was actively involved in many organizations and was president of the PRDA, Chamber of Commerce, Wilsonville Lions Club; Secretary of OSPA; and an Eagle Scout. He worked for Rite Aid, part time for AARP and then Safeway before retiring. He and his wife, JoAnne, have two daughters and three grandchildren.
John Kaegi also served in the military, but in the Navy, on the USS Rescue, where he was inaugurated as a King Neptune Boy.
After his service, he received an undergrad degree at OSU and a Masters at NYU in business, later obtaining his pharmacy degree from OSU and working with his brother at the family pharmacy.
The brothers Kaegi worked together for 32 years, from 1957-1989. Both saw many changes in the pharmacy industry: barcodes, computer revolution, reusable pill bottles.
John was president of the Wilsonville Chamber of Commerce, Wilsonville Lions Club, PRDA; on the Poison Control Board, and a member and officer of Mutual Wholesale Drug.
John also went to work for Rite Aid, as a manager, and now enjoys traveling to his beach house and enjoying his garden. Though his wife, Lucille, has since passed, Kaegi has two daughters and a son.
Sara J. White graduated with a degree in Pharmacy from OSU in 1968 and went on to acquire her Masters in Hospital Pharmacy Management from Ohio State University in 1972.
For 20 years, she worked at the University of Kansas Medical Center and then 11 years as a director of pharmacy at Stanford Hospital and Clinics and a clinical professor at the University of California at San Francisco.
Her influence in the field of pharmacy included recognition as a leader in helping hospitals with large health-care systems. White has been listed in the “Who’s Who of American Women” from 1979 to now.
She has been actively involved with many organizations throughout her career, including OSU Advisory Council, American College of Clinical Pharmacy, American Pharmaceutical Association and many more. She has been a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists since 1965. She now resides in Mountain View, Calif.
Milo Haas received his bachelor of science in pharmacy from North Dakota State University and his masters from OSU College of Pharmacy in Pharmaceutical Science in 1983.
He spent 25 years working at Providence Milwaukie Hospital as Pharmacy Manager and then worked at Providence Home Infusion for 11 years as Pharmacy Manager. He served as a preceptor for many students, many of whom have become various pharmacy leaders.
Haas is a member of the OSU College of Pharmacy Advisory Council and was President of the Oregon Society of Health System Pharmacists. In 1977 and 1983, he was named the recipient of the Outstanding Hospital Pharmacist by the Oregon Society of Health Care Pharmacists.
He dedicates much of his time to community involvement, serving 12 years on the Board of Directors for Clackamas County Fire District #1 and serving as a member of the Sunrise Rotary Club of North Clackamas. He and his wife, Ruth Ann, have two sons and five granddaughters.
