Richard Kaegi ('52)

Richard KaegiRichard Kaegi was destined for a career in pharmacy, the son of an OSU College of Pharmacy Class of 1921 graduate. Kaegi was drafted after he graduated and stationed in Okinawa, Japan as a pharmacist.

In 1973, Kaegi and his brother moved the family business down to Wilsonville, opening the first pharmacy in the small town, where people riding horses were common in the drive-up window. After 65 years in business, the Kaegi Pharmacy sold to Payless in 1989, but left a lasting legacy.

Both Richard and his brother worked to preserve the history of pharmacy, becoming curators of pharmacy antiquities and memorabilia. The old-time pharmacy exhibit is on display at the Clackamas County Historical Society Museum of the Oregon Territory.

Richard was actively involved in many organizations and was president of the PRDA, Chamber of Commerce, Wilsonville Lions Club; Secretary of OSPA; and an Eagle Scout.
