Dave Bearden

Preceptor of the Year 2009

OSU College of Pharmacy
Clinical Assistant Professor

Dave Bearden, clinical assistant professor at the OSU College of Pharmacy, graduated with a Pharm.D. from the University of Illinois in Chicago. His wife, Erin, is a pharmacist at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital, and they have three children. A resident of southwest Portland, Bearden is a fan of major league baseball. After graduating pharmacy school, he completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics, and a two-year Infectious Diseases Fellowship at the University of Illinois at Chicago

“I always liked to explain things,” he says. “I figured out during post-graduate training that I could combine the clinical and the teaching side into a career in academia.”

As a preceptor, he says he enjoys watching students put elements from the classroom into practice. His most common advice for students? “There are certainly wrong answers, but there are a lot of right ones.  Figuring out the ‘best’ answer is not confined to multiple choice exams, but continues throughout your career.”
