A home for inquiry and interdisciplinary research.

Our scientists are a community of scholars, educators and innovators driven by a spirit of inquiry, interdisciplinary study, intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and a shared commitment to advancing pharmaceutical knowledge and making a positive impact
on community health.

At the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the College of Pharmacy at Oregon State University (OSU), we seek to improve healthcare outcomes by researching and discovering new medications, ensuring their safety and efficacy, and optimizing drug delivery systems.

Scientific Research Meets Clinical Practice

We believe exposure to a combination of scientific research and clinical practice will best prepare the next generation of scientists to serve the needs of the pharmaceutical industry and public and private health care providers. The dual locations of the Department and College allows students to learn from and interact with faculties of both the Land Grant University (OSU) and an elite Medical Center (OHSU).

Our Faculty

Our faculty is a community of scholars and innovators characterized by a spirit of inquiry, collaboration, intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and a shared commitment to advancing pharmaceutical knowledge and making a positive impact on global health.

Research Areas

Our research teams uncover insights that will not only expand the boundaries of current knowledge but also contribute to solutions for real-world challenges. We have expertise in Natural Product, Small Molecules Drug Discovery, Vaccine Development, Synthetic Biology, Systems Biomedicine, Precision Medicine and Drug Delivery and Imaging. The Center for Innovative Drug Delivery and Imaging (CIDDI) develop lipid-based nanoparticles for effective delivery of mRNA vaccines and disease therapeutics, unique capabilities of nanomaterials for cancer therapeutics, and image-guided therapies.

“We invite you to explore the exciting opportunities and intellectual challenges that await you in this dynamic field.”

Chrissa Kioussi
Professor and Chair of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Integration & Acceleration

We integrate chemistry, biology, and computing to develop molecular therapeutics, small molecules, biologics, and combined radiation and chemotherapy treatments to combat:

We accelerate innovation in biomedical technologies to advance drug discovery, delivery, and testing across molecular, cellular, and systemic levels.

We train the next generation of scientists. The National Institutes of Health has awarded the College of Pharmacy with a T32 training grant to support and train graduate students in the study of natural products from botanical sources, marine and microbial products with the potential to enhance human health.
