Dr. Dean Haxby's research is being used to help manage costs for taxpayers while improving health for patients through OSU's Drug Use Research and Management (DURM) program. The DURM program is primarily funded by OSU contracts with the Oregon Medicaid program and CareOregon, the largest Medicaid managed care plan in Oregon. Current scholarly efforts are focused in the area of drug policy, drug utilizations, and methods to improve the prescribing of pharmacetuicals. Research evaluating pharmaceutical use patterns to identify areas in need of improvement often leads to the development of drug use policies or interventions to improve pharmaceutical precribing. Research is also conducted to evaluate innovative methods of managing pharmaceutical use and their impact on the quality or cost of prescribing.
